Anduril Industries plans to build submarine components for General Dynamics Electric Boat at a new Maryland shipyard, part of a financing plan totaling as much as $6.6 billion, the company announced Oct. 6.

Anduril said it will invest $3.7 billion in private capital. The company says a Navy contract worth up to $2.9 billion ties payments to production outcomes. The combined figure includes that contract ceiling.

The proposed Arsenal-2 facility at Tradepoint Atlantic in Baltimore County would manufacture large assemblies and components for Virginia-class submarines, then deliver them to Electric Boat and Newport News Shipbuilding for final assembly.

Electric Boat's production network spans Connecticut and Rhode Island. Its Quonset Point facility fabricates and outfits submarine hull sections before they travel by barge to Groton or Newport News. The Groton shipyard assembles modules into completed submarines and supports engineering and maintenance work.

Anduril expects initial operations at Arsenal-2 in 2030. Construction depends on obtaining the necessary approvals, the company said. It also operates a separate maritime factory at Quonset Point.

The Oct. 6 announcement describes additional supplier capacity for the submarine program, with the new shipyard investment located in Maryland.
