Boston University's men's hockey team beat Alaska 4-0 Saturday, Oct. 3, in Fairbanks, completing a weekend sweep and giving head coach Jay Pandolfo his 100th victory.
The Terriers scored all four goals in the third period after 40 scoreless minutes at the Carlson Center. Freshman Haoxi (Simon) Wang broke the tie at 3:43 with his first collegiate goal, assisted by Brandon Svoboda and Aiden Celebrini.
Kamil Bednarik made it 2-0 at 11:14 on an unassisted goal after taking possession in the neutral zone. Caleb Malhotra and Tynan Lawrence added empty-net goals at 17:42 and 18:16, respectively.
Mikhail Yegorov made 16 saves for his fourth career shutout. BU finished with 29 shots on goal and an 84-46 advantage in total shot attempts. The Terriers generated 35 attempts in the opening period, but the game remained scoreless until Wang's third-period finish.
Special teams did not produce a goal. BU went 0-for-4 on the power play, including a five-minute opportunity shortly after Wang scored, and killed all three Alaska power plays. An apparent shorthanded BU goal in the second period was disallowed after video review found a kicking motion.
Bednarik also assisted on Malhotra's empty-net goal to finish with two points. Jack Harvey supplied the other assist on that play, while Jack Murtagh assisted on Lawrence's goal.
Pandolfo became the fifth coach in BU history to reach 100 wins. The No. 16/15 Terriers are 2-0 to start the season, while Alaska fell to 0-2.
The Saturday result followed BU's 2-1 overtime victory in Friday's series opener. BU returns to Agganis Arena for an exhibition against Brown on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m.
