The company that runs Clynk, the bottle and can redemption service at most Hannaford stores in Maine, plans to lay off 54 workers at its processing plant at 565 Elm St. in Biddeford. Count & Crush LLC filed the layoff notice with the Maine Department of Labor on Sept. 9.
In a statement reported Sept. 11 by the Portland Press Herald, Chuck Riegle, a senior vice president at Clynk's parent company, Tomra, told the Portland Press Herald closing the plant is part of an effort to modernize Clynk's operations and would not interrupt redemption service. The Labor Department said affected workers have been offered its Rapid Response help.
Riegle said the company would share more details about its plans.
The state's public notice, checked Oct. 9, confirms the address, Sept. 9 notice date and 54 affected employees. It does not list an effective layoff date. The Press Herald report, updated Sept. 11, did not identify the new Maine processing sites or severance and transfer arrangements.
