Dartmouth earned its first football victory of the season Saturday, Oct. 3, beating Penn 14-10 in its Ivy League opener before a homecoming crowd at Buddy Teevens Stadium at Memorial Field in Hanover.
Myles Craddock scored the winning touchdown on a 2-yard run with 4:55 remaining. Dartmouth then stopped Penn near the end zone, with Colter Vela breaking up a fourth-down pass at the Dartmouth 16 with 1:20 left.
Uche Odimegwu added a sack on the game's final snap. The result improved Dartmouth to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the Ivy League, while Penn fell to 1-2 and 0-1.
Dartmouth scored first on a 16-yard pass from Grayson Saunier to Ky'Dric Fisher with 3:36 left in the opening quarter. The touchdown completed a 13-play, 80-yard drive that took more than seven minutes.
Penn's Mason Walters made a 26-yard field goal with 33 seconds left before halftime. Neither team scored in the third quarter, leaving Dartmouth ahead 7-3 entering the fourth.
Penn took its first lead on Sean Williams Jr.'s 1-yard touchdown run with 8:47 remaining. That drive covered 80 yards in 16 plays and consumed 8 minutes, 14 seconds.
Dartmouth answered immediately with an eight-play, 75-yard possession. Saunier completed passes of 34 yards to Nick Lemon and 23 yards to Fisher before Craddock finished the drive, restoring the lead in less than four minutes.
Saunier completed 13 of 15 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown without an interception. Craddock gained 85 yards on 21 carries. Lemon caught three passes for 56 yards, and Fisher had two catches for 39.
Johnny Stephens led Dartmouth with 13 tackles. Cameron Best-Alston added 12, and Steve Simpkins Jr. made 10 and forced a fumble. Penn finished with 360 yards of offense to Dartmouth's 312, but the Big Green kept the visitors to 10 points.
Dartmouth next visits Yale on Saturday, Oct. 10, for a noon kickoff in New Haven.
