The Maine State Archives has launched a new public platform for archival government records, with just over 100,000 imaged records available at the time of its Oct. 1 announcement.

The Maine State Archives' Open Access announcement describes the site as the public side of a digital preservation system for records requiring archival or long-term retention. Readers can reach the platform at Maine Digital Archives.

The archives' overall holdings date from a 1639 royal land grant to the 2024 papers of the commission that investigated the Lewiston tragedy.

The online platform includes a section on Maine before statehood and records documenting the state's involvement in the Civil War. Officials say more collections will be added as records are imaged.
