Massachusetts voters can cast ballots in person before Election Day from Oct. 17 through Oct. 30. The deadline to register for the Nov. 3 state election is Oct. 24, according to the secretary of the commonwealth's election calendar.

The ballot includes races for governor and lieutenant governor, U.S. Senate and House, statewide constitutional offices and the Legislature. Some county and local races vary by community.

Where to vote early

Voters may use any early voting location in the city or town where they are registered. No excuse is required. Every community must provide at least one early voting site and weekend voting hours, the state's early voting guide says.

The secretary's office says local schedules for this election will be posted on that page no later than Oct. 9. Voters should check the listed hours before going, since early voting hours and sites can differ from Election Day arrangements.

Mail applications and Election Day

The state lists 5 p.m. Oct. 27 as the vote-by-mail application deadline. That is the deadline to request a ballot, rather than a deadline for returning a completed ballot.

On Nov. 3, Election Day polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
