Megan Fuqua scored three goals and Addie Chandler added two as No. 3 Middlebury beat Colby 5-0 in field hockey Saturday, Oct. 3, at Peter Kohn Field.
The Panthers scored three times in the third quarter to turn a 1-0 halftime lead into a 4-0 advantage. Middlebury improved to 7-1 overall and remained unbeaten in the NESCAC at 5-0. Colby fell to 4-4 and 1-4.
Fuqua opened the scoring at 23:18 on a penalty-corner play assisted by Emma McCann and Lily Stockwell. Chandler made it 2-0 at 33:36, redirecting a ball from Tessa Herbst.
Fuqua scored again at 35:28, after Colby's Avery Taylor made a defensive save on an Anna Powell shot. McCann received the assist. Stockwell then assisted on Fuqua's third goal at 39:11, completing her second hat trick of the season.
Chandler finished the scoring at 48:21 on a rebound. She has scored in five consecutive games and now has seven goals this season. Fuqua's three goals raised her total to eight.
Middlebury controlled the shooting totals, taking 30 shots to Colby's three and putting 15 on target. The Panthers also earned 11 penalty corners, including five in the third quarter. Colby had two, both in the fourth.
Izzy Redzic, Madeline DiLemme and Sara Campbell combined for the shutout. Redzic made Middlebury's only save, stopping Christina Sweeney early in the second quarter, and played the first 30 minutes. DiLemme played 28 minutes after halftime, and Campbell handled the final two.
McCann and Stockwell each finished with two assists. Middlebury is now 43-1 in the teams' 44 meetings.
The Panthers' next scheduled game is at home against No. 16 Endicott on Sunday, Oct. 4, at noon.
