Providence is seeking a design and engineering firm to rework the Clemence Street and Middle Street alleyways downtown, with community outreach included in the proposed contract.
The city's solicitation calls for improved pedestrian access and considers lighting, drainage, landscaping and other changes. It identifies the Clemence Street crossing at Westminster Street as a priority.
The selected firm would assess existing conditions and develop design alternatives. It would also hold public meetings with English and Spanish interpretation and meet with nearby property and business owners.
The solicitation lists a virtual conference for prospective firms on Oct. 14 at 1 p.m. Community meeting dates will be determined during the project.
