Providence is asking Rhode Islanders to nominate evergreen trees for its annual holiday displays, with submissions due Nov. 7.

Thecity's announcementseeks spruce or fir trees: one 35 to 45 feet tall for City Hall and another 15 to 20 feet tall for the Providence Rink.

Owners can send a description and photograph to Allison Barry, the city's cultural affairs manager, atabarry@providenceri.gov.

The Parks Department's Forestry Division will cut and transport the selected trees at no charge to the donor. Stanley Tree Service will provide crane service, the city says.

The tree-lighting ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 5, from 4 to 7 p.m. The city lists family activities, refreshments and music, with further programming details to come.
