The Rhode Island Supreme Court has scheduled an Oct. 21 hearing in a dispute over Providence tax agreements tied to affordable housing.
The case involves deals negotiated by city entities, including the tax assessor, under which certain properties would receive favorable tax treatment in exchange for setting aside affordable units, according to the court's case summary.
The petitioners challenge a lower-court order allowing the City Council to intervene after a consent order was signed. The issues include whether that intervention was timely and whether the assessor could approve the deal without council approval.
The court lists Harrisburg Associates, LLC et al. v. The City of Providence et al. for 11 a.m. The hearing will address the challenge; it is not a ruling on the dispute.
