Vermont residents can now test their internet connections through a new state-backed website that combines speed measurements with troubleshooting information and a public map.

The Vermont Community Broadband Boardannounced VT Speed Check on Oct. 6. The board says the site anonymously aggregates test results to show how broadband connections perform across Vermont.

Residents can use the results to learn more about their connection and consult tools for common internet problems. The site also allows users to follow changes in broadband coverage as more people submit tests.

The board recommends testing at different times of day and on different days of the week. A single measurement captures one moment; repeated tests can show whether performance varies.

The Department of Public Service announcement links to the testing site and a step-by-step video. The project supplies information about service performance rather than announcing new broadband connections for individual homes.
