The Vermont Public Utility Commission will hold an online public hearing Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. on Barton Village Electric Department's request for a 14.73% rate increase.
A Sept. 1 commission order allows the utility to implement the increase as an identical 14.73% surcharge across customer classes while the commission investigates whether the rates are reasonable. Any money collected above the rate ultimately approved must be refunded.
Barton filed the revised rate schedules July 16 for service beginning Sept. 1. The proposed increase would add $526,831 in annual revenue, according to the order. The docket identifies the investigation as open.
A presentation hosted by the Department of Public Service, the state agency representing ratepayers in utility cases, begins Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 6:30 p.m. Barton representatives will describe the increase and answer questions before the hearing.
Residents can join through the Microsoft Teams link in the commission's hearing notice or call 802-828-7667 with conference ID 133303941. The case number is 26-1420-TF.
