Brown and the University of Rhode Island will play the 44th Governor's Cup at Centreville Bank Stadium in Pawtucket on Oct. 3, with kickoff at noon. Brown enters 1-1; URI is 2-3.

The Bears return to the venue where they lost 14-10 to Harvard on Sept. 25. The Rams arrive after a 22-18 loss at North Carolina A&T. Both defeats included four turnovers, according to Brown's game reports.

Brown won last year's meeting 28-21 against a URI team ranked in the national top 10, ending a six-game losing streak in the rivalry. Another victory would give the Bears consecutive Governor's Cups for the first time since their five straight wins from 2011 through 2015.

Ball security is a problem for Brown through two games. The Bears have lost two fumbles and thrown five interceptions, though their defense has allowed just seven points following those turnovers.

Against Harvard, Brown trailed 14-0 at halftime before Drew Crabtree's 48-yard field goal and Jackson Bennett's 29-yard touchdown run cut the deficit. Bennett scored with 8:16 remaining. Harvard secured the result with an interception in the final two minutes.

Brown's defense held Harvard to 88 yards after halftime and 298 for the game. Linebacker Max Malo finished with a career-high 16 tackles and his first career interception. Liam Fitzgerald added his first two career sacks.

Running back Matt Childs enters the URI game 12 yards short of 1,000 career rushing yards. The matchup will stream on FloCollege. Brown's next scheduled game is at home against Bryant on Oct. 10.
