Connecticut has awarded about $10.5 million to 50 recreational trail projects, including a multiuse connector in Avon and planning for a pathways project in Bridgeport.
The Oct. 1 grant announcement lists $505,000 for Phase II of Avon's Old Farms Road connectivity project, a trail connector from Tillotson Road to Fisher Meadows. Bridgeport will receive $180,000 for planning and design of the Old Mill Green Pathways project.
New Haven's $274,730 East Rock Park College Woods Inclusive Community Trail award is also for planning and design.
The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection selected the projects through a competitive review with the Connecticut Greenways Council, using money previously allocated by the State Bond Commission. The state said 25 of the 50 projects are in or serve distressed municipalities or environmental justice communities.
