Connecticut's teen-driver safety campaign continues beyond this week with school programs in Weston, Danbury and Bristol, as transportation officials urge families to talk about distraction, speeding and passenger risks.

The Department of Transportation's Save a Life Tour is scheduled at New Britain High School's Satellite Careers Academy on Friday, Oct. 23, followed by Weston High School on Oct. 28, Henry Abbott Technical High School in Danbury on Oct. 29 and Bristol Technical High School on Oct. 30.

The Choices Matter program also has school visits scheduled Oct. 26-30 in Watertown, Waterbury, Seymour, Bridgeport, Hamden, Hartford, Manchester and New Haven.

The department says 1,965 people were injured in Connecticut crashes involving teen drivers in 2024. Of those injured, 997 were teen drivers. Nine people died in those crashes, including five teen drivers. The figures count everyone involved, rather than only the young people behind the wheel.

National Teen Driver Safety Week runs Oct. 18-24. Connecticut's announcement points families to the state's graduated licensing rules, which set restrictions while new drivers gain experience.
