Construction has begun on a $125.3 million train station project in Enfield's Thompsonville neighborhood, with completion expected in fall 2030, Connecticut officials announced Oct. 28.

The Hartford Line station will restore passenger rail service to Enfield for the first time since 1986. It will fill an approximately 15-mile gap between Windsor Locks and Springfield Union Station.

Plans call for a 350-foot platform, a mostly enclosed waiting area and about 80 parking spaces. A dedicated area for two buses will connect the station with Enfield's Magic Carpet bus service.

The work extends beyond the platform. It includes replacing the railroad bridge over Main Street, increasing road clearance beneath it, adding sidewalks and realigning about 4,400 feet of track.

Approximately 85% of the funding is state money and 15% is federal, according to the state announcement. Officials project nearly 130,000 passenger trips annually by 2031.
