Eaton's Little White Church has been added to the National Register of Historic Places, NHPR reported Oct. 12.
Built in 1879 as the Eaton Center Free Will Baptist Church, the building stands across from Crystal Lake. Its design includes wooden clapboards, a recessed double-door entrance and a square belfry topped by an octagonal spire.
The Community Church of Eaton purchased the property in 1949. It has since been used for weddings, concerts, memorials and an annual Christmas Eve pageant, according to the historic-register nomination described by NHPR.
The National Register is the federal government's list of properties recognized as worthy of preservation. Listing can help owners qualify for preservation grants, including through New Hampshire's Land and Community Heritage Investment Program.
