Enanta Pharmaceuticals plans to lay off 37 employees after reviewing staffing for its drug development priorities, according to Fierce Biotech's Sept. 29 report.
The Watertown company confirmed the reductions in a statement to the publication, saying they affect departments throughout the business.
"As a result, we made the difficult decision to right-size the company across all departments to operate more efficiently," Enanta said in its statement to Fierce.
Enanta is continuing clinical work on zelicapavir, a potential treatment for respiratory syncytial virus. Results from a Phase 2b study in infants are expected in 2027, and the company plans a Phase 2b/3 trial in high-risk adults before the end of 2026, Fierce reported.
The company is also testing EDP-978, an oral drug candidate for urticaria, or hives, with early-stage results expected before year-end.
Enanta reported 120 full-time employees as of Sept. 30, 2025. That earlier headcount does not establish the percentage of its current workforce affected.
