MassDOT has completed a $115 million reconstruction of Route 79 and Davol Street in Fall River, replacing about a mile of elevated highway with a street-level boulevard, state officials announced Oct. 28.
The project began in 2023. Its changes include four cross-street connections between neighborhoods and the Taunton River waterfront, about two miles of sidewalks and more than two miles of shared-use paths.
Traffic signals and stormwater improvements were also part of the work, according to the state announcement.
The redesign made about 20 acres near the Fall River Depot rail station available for future development.
The state said its process for selecting a redevelopment proposal was continuing after an Oct. 21 bid deadline.
