Vermont forest owners and managers can download a free guide on how climate change affects forests and what they can consider when caring for their land.
Alexandra Kosiba, an assistant professor of forestry at University of Vermont Extension, wrote the four-part resource. Northern Woodlands compiled the work into Forests in a Changing Climate: A Guide to Impacts, Species Shifts, and Stewardship Options.
Its sections address future forest conditions, movement of tree species, management for resilience and heavy rain.
UVM Extension announced the resource Oct. 7. It says paper copies are available at Extension offices and forestry events. Copies can also be ordered from Northern Woodlands, with shipping charges.
The guide explains how conditions such as soil, slope and past land use affect a forest's response to heavy rain. It recommends getting professional advice for management choices that depend on the site.
