Additional Hartford Line service begins Monday, Nov. 16, the Connecticut Department of Transportation said Friday, Nov. 6. The changes add a weekday round trip between New Haven and Hartford, extend one weekday morning southbound CTrail train so it starts in Springfield, and extend weekend trains to and from Hartford.
According to the department's announcement, the extended weekend trains will stop at the Windsor and Windsor Locks stations. Amtrak service changes take effect the same day. The announcement does not list departure times or say which weekday train is the new one, and it directs riders to the updated schedule online at hartfordline.com/fares-schedules.
Funding and customer service
The Federal Railroad Administration's Restoration and Enhancement Program awarded grant funding for the Expanded CTrail Hartford Line Enhancement Project, the release says. The same grant is paying for additional customer service hours at Hartford Union Station, which start in January.
The release does not mention fare changes. It encourages riders to buy tickets ahead of travel through the CTrail eTix app or at ticket vending machines at Hartford Line stations, and to sign up for service alerts at servicealerts.ctrail.com. It recommends reviewing alert preferences after each schedule change.
Transportation Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto said in the release that the added service gives travelers more options and is part of continued investment in public transportation.
Related rail work
The Hartford Line is also the corridor for the Enfield station, where the department announced on Oct. 28 that construction had begun on a $125.3 million station that is expected to finish in fall 2030. That station is not part of the Nov. 16 changes.
