Portland Hearts of Pine plans to unveil the identity of its new women's soccer team Oct. 15, ahead of an inaugural season scheduled for May 2027.

Gov. Janet Mills announced the reveal Oct. 14 while proclaiming Oct. 15 the second Maine Day of Soccer. The first such proclamation accompanied the men's club's identity launch in April 2024.

The women's team will compete in the USL W League, a pre-professional league that provides a pathway between youth, college and professional soccer. It is distinct from the Hearts of Pine men's team, which plays professionally in USL League One.

Portland City Council approval in June cleared the way for the women's team to play its inaugural home season at Fitzpatrick Stadium, according to the club.
