Juanita Sanchez/PCD beat EWG/Prout 34-22 on Oct. 29, giving the co-op a win in its last game before Rhode Island's Division IV football playoff field is set.

The Rhode Island Interscholastic League (RIIL) puts Juanita Sanchez/PCD at 3-4. The team was fourth in the league's published Division IV RPI rankings when checked Oct. 30, with other teams still scheduled to play. That position is provisional, and a final playoff opponent has not been confirmed.

Thursday's game was listed for 6 p.m. at Exeter-West Greenwich High School. The league's pages for both schools recorded the same final score, with EWG/Prout falling to 2-6.

For Juanita Sanchez/PCD, the result followed a 26-14 loss to Narragansett on Oct. 23 at Conley.

Where the co-op stands

The RIIL standings listed Juanita Sanchez/PCD with an RPI of 1.160, ahead of fifth-place North Smithfield at 1.113. North Smithfield was listed to face Scituate on Oct. 30, a remaining game relevant to the final order.

Central Falls/BVP/AF led the published standings at 7-1, followed by Narragansett, also 7-1. Scituate was third at 6-1. Smithfield occupied sixth at 4-4.

The co-op's three victories in the league's record came against Toll Gate, Tiverton and EWG/Prout. Its losses came against Cranston East, Scituate, Central Falls/BVP/AF and Narragansett. Three of those opponents occupied the division's top three positions in the Oct. 30 standings.

The table puts Juanita Sanchez/PCD ahead of two teams with more wins: North Smithfield and Smithfield. That ordering reflects the league's use of RPI for seeding, rather than a simple count of victories. North Smithfield's remaining game leaves the order behind Scituate subject to change before the bracket is set.

How the playoffs work

Under the RIIL's 2026 football handbook, the top six eligible teams by RPI qualify for each divisional playoff. Teams must have played seven league games to be eligible.

If teams finish tied in RPI, the handbook first uses head-to-head results in league games to break the tie. The next criterion is winning percentage in league games against teams in the same division, followed by wins against higher-division teams.

The first and second seeds receive quarterfinal byes. The third seed plays the sixth, and the fourth plays the fifth. If Juanita Sanchez/PCD finishes fourth, it would enter the fourth-versus-fifth quarterfinal rather than receive a bye. The competition is single elimination, with a fixed bracket and no reseeding.

The league calendar places quarterfinal weekend on Nov. 6 and semifinal weekend on Nov. 13. Championship weekend is Nov. 20-21. The final RPI order will set the co-op's quarterfinal opponent.
