Maine Gov. Janet Mills announced Oct. 30 that she will contribute $25,000 to the Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence's Liberation Fund.
The money will come from the governor's contingent account, according to her office. The fund helps survivors with costs associated with leaving an abusive situation, including children's clothing, gasoline and security cameras.
The announcement came at the coalition's Champions of Change ceremony in Hallowell. The governor's office said the 2026-27 budget also included $2 million in one-time support for domestic violence survivors and $1 million in one-time support for sexual assault survivor services.
Those budget allocations are separate from the $25,000 contribution.
People seeking support can contact the statewide Domestic Abuse Helpline at 866-834-HELP.
