Maine's statewide average heating oil price reached $6.05 a gallon on Oct. 26, a new record in the state's weekly survey, the Department of Energy Resources announced Oct. 29.
The average was one cent higher than the previous week's $6.04 and 82% above the same time last year, according to the department. Kerosene averaged $7.06 a gallon.
The state survey announcement describes statewide averages. They are not a price quote for an individual delivery, which depends on the supplier and purchase terms.
The department said the Energy Crisis Intervention Program is scheduled to open Nov. 1 for eligible low-income households facing an immediate heating emergency. MaineHousing administers the Home Energy Assistance Program and urges people to apply before they run out of fuel.
Households with a member age 60 or older, a person with a disability, or a child age 6 or younger receive priority, the announcement says. The department urges people needing immediate relief to contact their Community Action Agency.
