The Maine Forest Service will hold a Nov. 2 hearing on proposed changes to timber-harvesting rules for the state's unorganized and deorganized areas, which do not have an organized municipal government.

The hearing starts at 10:30 a.m. in Room 101 of the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry's Deering Building, 90 Blossom Lane in Augusta. The official notice directs visitors to the north entrance.

The proposal would amend Chapter 27 to remove duplication and inconsistencies with Chapter 21, the statewide standards for timber harvesting in shoreland areas. The department says those shoreland standards took effect in the unorganized territories in January 2026.

The changes are proposed and have not been adopted. Written comments are due by noon Monday, Nov. 16.

The hearing notice links a fact sheet and a draft showing proposed changes. Questions can go to Maine Forest Service contact Morten Moesswilde at 207-592-2239.
