The public can help shape the search for the state's next higher education commissioner at two virtual forums on Nov. 3, the Board of Higher Education announced Oct. 28.

The forums begin at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. An online survey remains open until 5 p.m. Nov. 4. The board is inviting students, educators, families and other residents to describe the qualifications and priorities they want in the next commissioner.

A search advisory council established in September will screen and interview applicants, then recommend three to five finalists. The Board of Higher Education will interview finalists publicly and select an appointee, subject to the education secretary's approval.

Academic Search was selected through a competitive process to assist with recruiting. Public feedback will help the advisory council write the position profile used to guide the search.

Forum details and the survey are available through the commissioner search page. The board's announcement describes the selection process.
