Hunters with lottery-issued permits took 29 moose during New Hampshire's Oct. 17-25 season, an 85% success rate, the Fish and Game Department reported Oct. 28.
The department issued 34 lottery permits and donated two more permits, one each to the Dream Hunt Program and the Wildlife Heritage Foundation of New Hampshire. The reported success rate applies to the lottery hunters, rather than all 36 permit holders.
The lottery harvest included 23 bulls, five cows and one calf. The agency said the success rate exceeded the 10-year average of 70%.
Moose project leader Henry Jones described mixed hunting conditions, with opening-day snow in northern areas followed by clear skies and moderate temperatures that concentrated moose activity around dawn and at night.
The department's season report records the hunting results.
