A fundraiser for Providence bar and music venue Nick-a-Nees has surpassed its $30,000 goal, with its GoFundMe page listing $61,281 and 809 donations when checked Oct. 18.
Jessica Donnelly organized the campaign for Stephanie Finizia. The appeal, presented as a message from the venue's staff, says the money is intended to cover operating expenses, carry the business through the holiday season and give it time to assess its future.
Staff describe rising rent, utilities and supply costs, and identify the Dec. 1 liquor-license renewal as another expense. Those cost pressures are the organizers' account; the fundraising page does not provide a financial statement.
The appeal says staff have been planning events and promotions while trying to preserve affordable drinks and live music without a cover charge. It also says the fundraising effort cannot guarantee a solution to every financial challenge facing the business.
