Drivers on Route 1 between North Road and Juniper Road face daytime lane shifts and alternating one-way traffic through Dec. 4 during work at the Little River crossing in North Hampton.

The Department of Transportation lists the work window as Oct. 22 through Dec. 4, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting. The state notice says crews will relocate an existing water main, install a temporary pipe to divert the stream and build temporary widening on the road's southbound side.

The work is part of a $2.5 million project replacing the stone box culvert carrying the Little River beneath Route 1. A culvert is a structure that lets water pass under a road.

William P. Davis Excavation of Hampton is the contractor. The larger project is scheduled for completion in fall 2027; Dec. 4 is the end of this announced work period, not the completion date for the crossing replacement.

The state says message boards, uniformed officers, flaggers and traffic-control equipment will guide drivers through the changing lane arrangement. Drivers should follow the signs at the site and allow time for alternating traffic.

Current traffic and construction notices are available through New England 511.
