The University of Connecticut is turning its honors program into an Honors College, with plans to expand courses and other academic opportunities for students across its campuses.
UConn announced the change Oct. 28. The existing program, which dates back more than 60 years, serves more than 2,600 students.
Jennifer Lease Butts, who has directed the honors program since 2012, will be the college's inaugural dean.
The university described plans for an Honors Faculty Fellows Program to involve more faculty members in honors teaching, expanded enrichment opportunities and modest enrollment growth. The announcement did not specify a numerical enrollment target or a separate budget for the change.
