University of Vermont trustees approved a 2% increase in undergraduate tuition for Vermont residents and a 3.5% increase for out-of-state undergraduates for the 2027-28 academic year, according to the university's account of its fall meeting.
The board met Oct. 16 and 17. Its approvals also covered fee, housing and dining rates. The published meeting account does not list dollar amounts for tuition, fees, housing or dining.
Trustees also authorized up to $10 million for early work on UVM's multipurpose center and up to $800,000 for design development of recreation and wellness components.
The early work includes preparing previously fabricated structural steel, temporary spaces, site-readiness work and ordering materials with long delivery times. UVM said the approvals let it continue planning and preparatory work needed before construction.
Separately, the board's Budget, Finance and Investment Committee approved authorization of up to $11.3 million to renovate Harris-Millis Dining Hall, using university housing and dining reserves.
According to the university's account, Alicia Estey, UVM's senior vice president for finance and administration, said the increases balance affordability for Vermont students with the need to sustain academic quality, student services and campus investment.
