Passenger service at the new Windsor Locks, Connecticut, train station at 231 Main St. is scheduled to begin Sunday, Oct. 18, after an Oct. 13 ribbon-cutting ceremony, according to Gov. Ned Lamont's office.
Next door, Trinity Financial plans 120 mixed-income apartments in two phases at 255 Main St., replacing a 37,000-square-foot strip shopping center on a 3.2-acre site. The town scheduled a groundbreaking ceremony there for Oct. 13, the same day as the station ceremony.
Trinity's project page lists 70 apartments over ground-floor commercial space in the first phase and 50 in the second. It says apartments will serve households earning 30%, 50%, 60% and 80% of the area's median income, alongside market-rate units. Its project page lists 2027 as the projected completion date for the first phase.
The new station relocates CTrail Hartford Line and Amtrak service from south of downtown. It adds a roughly 500-foot platform for accessible, level boarding and 160 parking spaces. CTtransit routes 24, 96E and 905 Express will serve it; Route 24 provides daily connections to Bradley International Airport's Terminal A in about 12 minutes.
The state puts the rail project at $121.2 million, including station, roadway, track and pedestrian-bridge work. About 85% of the funding is state money and 15% federal. Track construction continues, with full completion expected in spring 2028.
