Barre has been awarded $4,243,069 in federal disaster-recovery funding for a plan that includes 17 townhomes at Wobby Park and three property buyouts in the city's North End.

Gov. Phil Scott announced the grant Oct. 15 as the final award in Vermont's Community Development Block Grant disaster-recovery round for the July 2023 flooding, according to the governor's office.

The buyouts involve two commercial properties and one residential property. Those sites would become green space and accommodate a relocated Wobby Park, while the existing park site would be used for housing.

The state says the full recovery round totals $67.845 million across 28 projects. The money comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and is administered by Vermont's Agency of Commerce and Community Development.

The agency maintains a disaster-recovery award list with other funded projects. The governor's announcement does not give a construction start date for the Barre homes.
