U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., was hospitalized after a stroke Saturday, Oct. 31, and was awake and alert, his chief of staff said in a Nov. 1 statement.
Allison Herwitt said Murphy began experiencing numbness in his arm while attending his son's hockey game. He was taken to a local hospital, where the stroke was identified, then transferred to Johns Hopkins for further monitoring.
Herwitt said doctors were encouraged by his progress and that the office was optimistic he would make a full recovery. The statement did not give a discharge date or a timetable for returning to work.
