Connecticut recorded 505,973 early and returned absentee ballots in a tally the secretary of the state published Monday and labeled as of Nov. 1.

The total consists of 455,169 in-person early votes and 50,804 returned absentee ballots. The figures are unofficial and subject to change. They do not include ballots cast on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3.

The state reported that 6,469 early voters had used same-day registration. West Hartford had the largest cumulative early-voting count listed, at 10,291, followed by Norwalk at 9,662 and Fairfield at 9,184.

The Nov. 2 release separately lists 71,658 absentee ballots issued. That figure includes ballots not yet returned and is not a count of additional votes cast. The release's latest daily early-vote entry is for Oct. 31, so the cumulative tally should not be treated as a final early-voting total.

In-person early voting ended Nov. 1. The cumulative figures measure participation before Election Day; they do not show which candidates those voters supported.
