Connecticut residents with Farmers' Market Nutrition Program benefits have until Nov. 30 to spend them with certified farmers, the state Department of Agriculture said Oct. 1.

This year, eligible participants in WIC, the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, receive $65 each. Eligible seniors receive $40. The farmers market program uses state and federal funding to help participants buy locally grown food directly from Connecticut farmers.

Eligible purchases include fruits, vegetables, cut herbs and eggs. Seniors can also buy honey. The department said the program serves qualifying seniors, certain disabled people under 60, and women and children enrolled in WIC.

Participants can find certified sellers at farmers markets and farm stands through the CT Grown map linked from the department's notice. Program details and eligibility information are available on the agriculture department's website.
