Connecticut Foodshare has begun receiving eggs from a legal settlement that will bring 1.5 million free eggs to the state over the next several months, Attorney General William Tong's office announced Oct. 14.

The first shipments arrived this month. Foodshare will distribute the eggs through its network of more than 450 partners, including food pantries, community kitchens and shelters. Partners can request eggs through their scheduled pickups or deliveries.

Eggs may also be available through Foodshare's mobile pantries at 113 locations. Families can find a nearby mobile pantry by texting FOODSHARE to 85511 or using the organization's online locator. Availability will depend on the location and shipment schedule.

The donations are part of a settlement announced in June with Cal-Maine Foods, Versova/Centrum and Hickman's Egg Ranch. Tong's office said the agreement resolved a joint state-federal investigation into coordination of egg prices and requires producers to donate 53 million eggs nationwide and pay $3.3 million to states.

Connecticut's cash share is $95,686, separate from the donated eggs, according to the attorney general's office.
