Connecticut plans to launch a mobile identification app Nov. 18, allowing residents to verify their identity and age through a phone while continuing to carry their physical license or ID.
The Connecticut DMV says the free app will be available through Apple's App Store and Google Play. Residents will need a physical Connecticut driver's license or identification card to complete setup.
At launch, the Transportation Security Administration will accept it at participating airport checkpoints nationwide, including Bradley International and Tweed New Haven airports.
Acceptance elsewhere will be limited. Police will not accept the app as a replacement for a driver's license, and it cannot be used for voting. Showing a screen alone will not be sufficient at businesses, which need a compatible verification app.
Businesses may choose whether to accept the credential. The Department of Consumer Protection said it will provide information over the next month to licensees in industries that check IDs.
