Connecticut increased its standard rebate for a new battery-electric vehicle to $1,500 on Oct. 15, up from $1,000, according to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Buyers who qualify for the additional Rebate+ incentive can receive another $3,000, bringing their combined state rebate to $4,500. The department announced the change in an Oct. 14 program update.

The increase applies to CHEAPR, the state program that reduces the purchase price of eligible electric vehicles. New vehicles must meet the program's $50,000 price limit and be purchased from a licensed Connecticut new-car dealer.

Other incentive amounts are unchanged: qualifying new plug-in hybrids can receive a combined $2,000, while Rebate+ incentives for eligible used battery-electric vehicles and used plug-in hybrids remain $5,000 and $3,000, respectively.

Rebate+ eligibility has additional income, assistance-program or community requirements. All Rebate+ applicants must obtain a preapproval voucher. Buyers should check the current vehicle list and their eligibility through the CHEAPR program before committing to a purchase.
