Massachusetts entrepreneurs can register for two free online workshops on fraud prevention and business financing, with the first session scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 29.

The state treasurer's Office of Economic Empowerment and M&T Bank announced the fall Small Business Empowerment Series Oct. 21. Both sessions run from 3 to 4 p.m. Eastern and will be presented in English with live Haitian Creole interpretation.

The Oct. 29 session covers business fraud and prevention strategies. Amy Perry, M&T's senior vice president of fraud training and education, is the listed presenter.

Topics include check fraud, criminals taking control of business accounts and business email compromise. In the last of those schemes, a criminal uses a deceptive or compromised email account to trick someone into sending money or information.

The Nov. 5 workshop concerns access to credit and banking services. Rob Torres, an M&T vice president and senior relationship manager, is scheduled to discuss financing and banking resources.

Owners may register for one session or both through the link in the state announcement. The workshops are educational events, rather than a loan application or a promise that participants will qualify for financing.
