Rhode Island's health-insurance enrollment period opens Nov. 1 with a new state program providing financial assistance to make coverage more affordable for eligible HealthSource RI customers.
The enrollment period for 2027 coverage runs through Jan. 31, 2027. HealthSource RI says the Rhode Island Marketplace Affordability Program is expected to help more than 20,000 eligible current and former customers beginning in January.
The state assistance responds to the expiration of enhanced federal premium tax credits. For many eligible customers, it can supplement federal tax credits that remain available. Eligibility and savings are governed by the marketplace's published 2027 program parameters.
HealthSource RI encourages current customers to review renewal documents and compare plans again, even if their coverage has been renewed for 2027. Monthly premiums, available assistance and out-of-pocket costs can differ among plans.
HealthSource RI offers free help from enrollment specialists called Navigators. Residents can call 1-855-840-4774 for assistance or dial 211 to arrange a Navigator appointment. The marketplace says 2027 plan comparisons become available Nov. 1.
Parents and caretakers of children enrolled in Medicaid may qualify for separate premium assistance if their income is at or below 175% of the federal poverty level and they are ineligible for Medicaid themselves. That assistance requires an eligible Silver plan and may be combined with the new program, according to HealthSource RI.
