Maine applicants seeking federal Flood Mitigation Assistance must submit a letter of intent and complete eligibility checks by 5 p.m. Nov. 13, according to the state's funding notice.
The listing updated Nov. 3 says those steps must happen before an application is started in FEMA's grant system. Applications started without completing them will not be submitted.
The national program supports work to reduce repeated flood damage to buildings insured through the National Flood Insurance Program. Eligible applicants include local governments, state agencies and tribal nations. Participation in the flood-insurance program and approved hazard-mitigation planning are among the eligibility requirements.
The notice lists a Dec. 18 application closing date, but the Nov. 13 preliminary deadline comes first. It also says no eligibility checks will be completed after Nov. 13 for applicants seeking this funding round.
Letters of intent go to hmagrants@maine.gov. The listing outlines eligible projects and cost-sharing rules, and links to the Maine Emergency Management Agency's mitigation grants page. Applicants can request the letter-of-intent form at hmagrants@maine.gov.
