U.S. and Maine flags are to fly at half-staff statewide from sunrise to sunset Sunday, Oct. 25, in remembrance of the victims and survivors of the 2023 Lewiston mass shootings, in which 18 people were killed.

Gov. Janet Mills issued the order Oct. 24. The shootings took place at Just-In-Time Recreation and Schemengees Bar and Grille and injured others as well as those killed.

In her accompanying statement, Mills remembered the victims and their loved ones and thanked the first responders and others who helped people survive.

She also recalled the support Mainers showed Lewiston after the shootings, including blue hearts displayed in store windows.
