A Penobscot County grand jury has indicted Brittany Wood, 36, of Eddington, a member of the RSU 63 school board, on charges of domestic violence aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child, WABI and Fox Bangor reported on Oct. 1. The outlets did not publish the indictment's return date or a docket number, and Six State Signal did not obtain the indictment or a Penobscot Unified Criminal Docket entry for this article.
The charges relate to the May 31 case in which Wood's then 9-month-old daughter was revived after Narcan was given, according to July court coverage. Fox Bangor, citing a court affidavit and court documents, reported that Wood called 911 that afternoon to say the child was unresponsive, that first responders revived the child after administering Narcan, and that the child tested positive for fentanyl and cocaine. An indictment is an accusation. As of the Oct. 1 reports, no plea on the indictment had been described.
In July, after Wood's first appearance, Penobscot County District Attorney Christopher Almy said the state's position was that "the mother was reckless in the care of her infant and as a result the baby almost died," Fox Bangor reported. Almy also said then: "The baby had been breast-fed by the mother who we suggest by the evidence had been using fentanyl and that's how the fentanyl got into the baby's system." WABI separately quoted Almy saying it was "a fair inference that she was trying to avoid capture," describing travel to Boston and Times Square and a rental car. Wood's side has said she was on vacation and learned of the warrant from a news article; Fox Bangor's July report did not name the attorney who made that argument in court.
A warrant for Wood's arrest was issued July 2, and Brewer police arrested her the evening of July 14 in Brewer, according to July reporting by WABI and Fox Bangor. WABI's Oct. 1 indictment brief said she "was arrested two weeks after the incident," which does not match the July warrant and arrest dates and is not used here.
Wood remains listed on the RSU 63 board roster with a term that expires in June 2027, according to the district's board members page checked Oct. 7. District meeting minutes for Aug. 24, 2026, list her among members present for the Eddington seats, with a late arrival at 6:46 p.m. Under RSU 63 Policy BBBDA, the board may consider declaring a seat vacant after three consecutive unexcused absences from regular meetings; the policy is not an automatic removal after any three misses.
Six State Signal did not obtain a comment for this article from Wood's current attorney, from RSU 63, or from the district attorney's office on the indictment. Fox Bangor reported in July that the superintendent denied that outlet's request for comment at the time of the arrest coverage.
