Massachusetts has launched a statewide campaign explaining how older adults can reach 911 when speaking on the phone is difficult or unsafe.
The State 911 Department's Oct. 8 announcement describes the Silent Call Procedure and text-to-911. It also promotes the Massachusetts Equipment Distribution Program, which provides specialized telephone equipment at little or no cost to eligible residents with disabilities.
The campaign primarily targets residents 60 and older, their families and caregivers through television, radio, digital and social media and community outreach. Materials will be available in multiple languages, and the effort is scheduled to run through June 2027.
Readers can find emergency access information at the State 911 Department and equipment eligibility details at MassEDP.
