New Hampshire has announced more than $11 million in grants for rural emergency medical services and mobile health programs, including plans for a new North Country service from Berlin to Pittsburg.

The Oct. 22 announcement identifies Milan and Dummer ambulance services as partners in the planned North Country program. It also describes plans to establish or expand mobile health programs in the Littleton-Lisbon area, Upper Valley, Lakes Region, Monadnock and Keene area, and Capital Area.

Mobile integrated health brings medical care into the community through teams that can include nurses and paramedics. An existing Lebanon program, for example, combines city nurses and a fire-department paramedic with hospital and community partners.

The grants come through GO-NORTH, the state office overseeing its federally funded Rural Health Transformation Program. The Foundation for Healthy Communities administered the competitive award process.

The state says the funding will help agencies facing workforce shortages, financial pressure and rising call volumes. The Oct. 22 announcement said recipients were being notified that week.
