The Providence Journal has stopped printing and delivering the newspaper on selected holidays, beginning Monday, Oct. 12. Its digital replica edition will continue to publish every day.

The newspaper's subscriber notice lists five non-print dates for the remainder of 2026: Oct. 12, Nov. 11, Dec. 24, Dec. 25 and Dec. 31. The change affects those dates rather than establishing a reduced weekly print schedule.

In an explanation published Oct. 7, Lynne Sullivan of the Journal said the eNewspaper would remain available all 365 days of the year. Print subscribers already have access to that edition and the newspaper's online reporting through their subscriptions.

Readers who have not activated their digital access can do so at providencejournal.com/activate. The eNewspaper reproduces the newspaper's pages.

Monday's comics and puzzles are available in the digital edition, Sullivan wrote. Monday's sudoku and crossword will also appear in Tuesday's printed newspaper. The Journal's subscription terms say rates will not change because of the non-print days.

The subscription terms also address readers whose newspapers arrive through the Postal Service. Their papers are delivered with regular mail, and when postal service stops for a federally recognized holiday, delivery shifts to the next available mail day.

Readers with questions about their accounts can contact Journal customer service at 1-888-697-7656. The newspaper's published subscription terms say the non-print dates are subject to change.
