Providence Public Schools confirmed Superintendent Javier Montañez's resignation in an Oct. 30 Facebook post. The district's statement does not give his final day or name an interim superintendent.

In the district announcement, Montañez said it was time for him to move on and let a new generation of leaders take the district further. He said he would remain available to support it.

The statement describes more than 30 years of service as a teacher, administrator and superintendent. Montañez is a former Hope High School student. His message on the district website says he has served as superintendent since 2021.

Six State Signal asked the district Oct. 31 for the original notices to families and the School Board, his departure date, interim leadership arrangements and any public separation agreement. The district had not replied by publication.
