Rhode Island's Department of Environmental Management lists Dec. 30, 2026, as the application deadline for a state-administered disaster-relief program funded with nearly $15 million from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The program covers eligible losses from weather events in 2023 and 2024. Applications opened Oct. 5, according to the Department of Environmental Management's current program page.

Applicants must have had an ownership share and production risk in the affected crop, livestock or timber, including timber rights. Eligible losses must have occurred in Rhode Island and total at least $2,500 across the categories claimed.

Listed categories include infrastructure loss, future economic loss, market loss, timber loss and bare-ground practices needed to reduce land loss. The program is intended to address eligible agricultural damage not covered by other USDA disaster programs.

The department provides application instructions, a loss calculator and an online submission link. Producers should check the request for applications to determine which claimed expenses qualify.
